The grand opening of the 2019 China International Maritime Exhibition

On December 3rd, the 20th China International Maritime Exhibition, hailed as a barometer of international maritime technology development trends, officially opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.

This exhibition covers an area of over 90000 square meters and has attracted 2200 participating companies from more than 30 countries and regions. Major industry giants and well-known enterprises, including China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, China COSCO Shipping Group, China Merchants Industrial Group, Zhenhua Heavy Industry, Mitsubishi, etc., have all appeared at this exhibition. Among them, the newly established China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation has made its debut on the international stage. At the same time, this exhibition also attracted over 65000 professional visitors from more than 100 countries and regions. Compared with the previous edition, all data has been improved, reaching a new high in previous editions.

At the opening ceremony, Vice Mayor Wu Qing of Shanghai Municipal People's Government and State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry Gael Inge Schiffson delivered speeches respectively. He stated that after 40 years of hard work, China International Maritime Exhibition has become the largest and most influential brand exhibition in the global maritime field, playing an important role in showcasing the latest achievements in maritime technology development, promoting international maritime cooperation and exchanges, and advancing the development of the world's shipbuilding, shipping, and port industries. At present, Shanghai insists on using high-tech ships as a breakthrough point, and has made continuous breakthroughs in various high-end ship and sea equipment such as large cruise ships, ultra large container ships, polar research ships, LNG ships, etc. On October 18th, China's first large-scale cruise ship started construction in Shanghai, marking a breakthrough in China's shipbuilding industry to achieve "zero" cruise ship construction and officially entering the era of large-scale cruise ship construction. Wu Qing sincerely hopes to use the China International Maritime Exhibition as a platform to further deepen exchanges, discuss cooperation, and seek common development with experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs in the maritime field from around the world.

In his speech, Gail Inge Schiffson stated that Marintec China has developed into a very important event on the international maritime agenda, and the high participation of the international community in Marintec China proves that the trade and investment relations between China and the world are growing day by day. Currently, the shipping industry is undergoing a huge transformation, and the pace of change and development is constantly accelerating. The sustainable growth of the blue economy will inevitably require more innovation and new technologies. At the same time, the enormous development of the global shipping industry will bring countless opportunities and challenges, and will irreversibly shape the future of the shipping industry. For the relationship between China and world shipping countries, this is also a hopeful period. Marintec China will further develop China's trade and investment relations with the world, and cooperation will become increasingly close.

As the future development trend of the shipbuilding and shipping industries, intelligent shipping is the focus of the exhibition for major exhibitors at this year's conference. China COSCO Shipping Group will focus on showcasing its progress in intelligent shipping construction, and China Classification Society will also release the latest version of the Intelligent Ship Outlook and Intelligent Ship Standards. Kongsberg and Wartsila, which integrate Rolls Royce's merchant business, will showcase their latest progress in unmanned vessels. At this exhibition, the comprehensive display of relevant exhibits and technologies will further promote the shipping industry to move towards a new era of intelligent shipping.

Environmental friendliness is a key requirement for the future development of the maritime industry. At this exhibition, a large number of low emission or even zero emission technologies and products will emerge, demonstrating the future development trend of the shipbuilding industry. China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Dalian Heavy Industry will launch a zero carbon emission ultra large container ship, and power giants such as Wartsila will launch new gas engines. The pilot situation and related design schemes of hydrogen fuel cell powered ships will also be highlighted and introduced at this exhibition, which is of great value for the future development of ship power.

With the continuous increase in human exploration and development of the ocean, deep-sea fishing equipment represented by ocean ranch platforms has become a hot topic in the maritime industry. Domestic enterprises represented by China National Shipbuilding Corporation will bring their latest marine ranching, breeding factory ship and other advanced deep-sea fishery equipment to the exhibition, demonstrating China's latest achievements in building an intelligent marine fishery equipment industry chain; The exhibition halls of Norway, Denmark and other countries not only bring advanced deep-sea aquaculture technology and deep-sea fishing equipment technology, but also showcase a series of deep-sea fishing equipment supporting equipment, demonstrating their profound supporting capabilities in the field of deep-sea fishing equipment.

Luxury cruise ships are a hot spot in the local market. More than 250 cruise ship assembly and supporting equipment companies will be distributed in major exhibition halls, including Fincantieri, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, China Merchants Industrial, Ustan and many other companies involved in the construction, design and supporting of luxury cruise ships will bring related exhibits. This exhibition also specially launched the "Cruise Interior Exhibition Area" based on the difficulties in building large luxury cruise ships, to increase the audience's experience, and held a large number of concurrent seminars to promote industry exchanges.

As an important component of the China International Maritime Exhibition, this year's Advanced Maritime Forum is themed "Innovation, Intelligent Manufacturing, and Collaboration". At the highest level of the thematic presentation session, overseas experts such as Mr. Gail Inge Schiffson, Mr. Esben Poulson, Mr. Allen Shama, Mr. Murayama, Professor Jihad Strauss, and Professor Martin Stoffel will bring wonderful presentations. In addition to government officials, the main leaders of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and authoritative experts from the Ministry of Transport will give speeches as industry representatives and academic experts. The high-level thematic presentation further highlights the status of China International Maritime Exhibition as a global industry event.

The major events such as "Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Special Session", "Shipping and Port Special Session", "Maritime Finance and Law Special Session", "Supporting Equipment and Technology Special Session", and "Cruise Interior Special Session" are highly in line with the theme of the conference, reflecting the latest development trend of the international maritime industry. In addition, multiple product launches or signing events will be organized during this forum, among which the Shipping and Port Special Session will hold the "World's First Large Container Intelligent Ship Commercial Launch Ceremony" of COSCO Shipping Group.

In addition to the advanced maritime forum, during the exhibition, relevant maritime organizations and enterprises will also spontaneously host various forums, technical exchange meetings, product launches, signing ceremonies, award ceremonies, etc., with a total of hundreds of events. It is reported that the International Internal Combustion Engine Roundtable Conference, China Numerical Water Tank Technology Seminar, and Ocean Engineering Technology Exchange Forum will all be held during the exhibition period.
